York County
As one of the oldest counties in the United States, York County is packed with history, and with some of the highest rated schools in Hampton Roads, it’s easy to see why people love to live in York County. Here you can enjoy a serene homestead with land and horses, or choose to live overlooking the bluffs of Yorktown, home to the surrender of General Cornwallis to General Washington in 1781. Part of the Historic Triangle, which includes Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, Yorktown is a charming place to visit. You can take in the views and relax with the kids as they splash in the York River, or have a cold pint and one of the best burgers on the Peninsula at the Yorktown Pub (you’ll thank me later).
If you are a history lover, you will want to check out both the Yorktown Battlefield, which has been painstakingly preserved to give a deep glimpse into the legendary battle, and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. You’ll learn so many new things about the founding fathers and our early history, that you will no doubt be swelling with pride as you make your way back.
